Eating
Publix Supermarket
is on the island if you turn right at the light out of the hotel. It's right
next to the Florida Oceanographic Society. They make good subs and such: deli,
bakery, and it's quite close.
Quite close to the hotel are: (heading
back over one bridge)
Prawnbroker ,
Benihana
(overlooks intracoastal) , (in same basic plaza area);
And if you turn north after one bridge,
on Indian River Drive,
Dolphin Bar Shrimp House...
nice for a Saturday evening lunch or dinner. They have early bird, and a big
salad bar. And it's on the water.
Keep going north on that road and
you're in Jensen Beach and there are a number of restaurants on the main "strip"
including Mulligan's, Crawdaddy's, and others.
Or, from the hotel go back over both
bridges and on the "mainland": Peacock Chinese (Link to review)

Carmela's Brick Oven Pizza (VERY good pizza, and Italian
desserts, and a wine bar). Link is to a review.

fast food: Dunkin Donuts, Burger King, Baskin Robbins. There's a Walgreen's
drugstore there, too, corner of East Ocean and Monterey.
And on U.S. 1 right around Monterey (the road you come to-from the hotel -
Monterey to East Ocean to hotel) are a bunch of restaurants, including
Too Jays (NT style deli; also good breakfasts ... and desserts)
http://www.toojays.com/menus/ ,
Denny's, Ihop, Monkey King "Floribbean"
Grill, El Toro Mexican, Stuart Ale House,
Flanigan's, Atlanta Bread Company, Sonny's BBQ,
Bono's BBQ, Pei Wei Asian, Rotelli
Italian, Cold Stone Creamery, Jimmy John's
Subs, Thep Thai and the usual fast food/sandwich shops.

Museums
Elliott Museum
At the Elliott Museum, we explore a
bygone lifestyle and show how ingenuity has affected how we live, shop, work and
travel. Our vast collection includes life-size dioramas, vintage clothing and
memorabilia, early inventions and an outstanding array of antique automobiles
and baseball memorabilia.
House of Refuge at Gilbert's Bar
The House of Refuge Museum at Gilbert’s
Bar provides a look at turn-of-the-century living along the coast. Areas
available for public viewing are the boathouse, kitchen, dining room, parlor,
bedroom and a lookout tower constructed during WWII. New exhibit space includes
a timeline of Hutchinson Island dating from 2000 B.C. to the hurricanes of 2004.

Beaches
Stuart Beach
(right behind the Elliott Museum)
(from that site) Stuart Beach is a
recreational hub for coastal Martin County. A pavement parking lot provides
plenty of room for beachgoers, with extra parking on the grass. Three boardwalks
provide beach access, with a large snack bar located between two of them.
Bathrooms and changing areas are connected on the north side. Beginning surfers
flock to Stuart Beach because of the sandy bottom and coastline, along with the
safety of lifeguards. The beach here is flat and wide, providing a great arena
for beach football and Frisbee. The bottom slopes gradually, so children without
exceptional swimming skill can still play safely in the water. Shore-breaking
waves can be large so exercise caution. Several showers make cleaning easy. On
the north edge of the parking lot sit two full basketball courts and two
volleyball nets. Since this is a public beach, visitors must bring their own
balls to use the facilities.
Bathtub Beach
(just past the Gilbert's Bar House of
Refuge) There are three entrances to Bathtub’s huge sandy parking lot. The beach
itself is protected by Bathtub Reef. The reef creates a lagoon off the shore,
making this the best beach option for children. Lifeguarded. Large bathrooms and
changing rooms, as well as several showers to rinse off. Although the beaches
technically close at night, the parking lot is lighted to be safe.
